A Celebration of Faith, Culture and Community: Cardinal Leo Visits Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish

On September 20, 2026, the community of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish joyfully welcomed His Eminence Frank Cardinal Leo for the celebration of the noon Mass. The visit marked a special moment in the life of the parish, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. Reflecting the rich cultural diversity of the community, the liturgy was filled with prayer and vibrant music, including selections rooted in the Caribbean Catholic tradition and led by the parish’s Alegría Music Ministry.

In his homily, Cardinal Leo encouraged parishioners to embrace what he described as the “Three Gs” — Generosity, Gratefulness and Godliness — as essential qualities of Christian life. Drawing upon the words of Jesus in John 10:10, “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly,” His Eminence invited the community to consider how lives centred on God and lived with gratitude and generosity can become a witness to others. His message resonated deeply with a parish community shaped by many cultures, generations and gifts, yet united in faith.

Following Mass, Cardinal Leo blessed the parish’s beautiful new mural before joining parishioners for a reception filled with fellowship and warm Caribbean hospitality. The celebration continued with the distinctive sound of the steelpan, performed by youth and adults from the community, bringing a joyful conclusion to a memorable day. Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish is deeply grateful for Cardinal Leo’s pastoral presence and encouragement and will carry forward his call to live with Generosity, Gratefulness and Godliness as the community continues its journey of faith and service.
